Chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) is a reactive, unstable gas. It cannot be stored as a compressed gas for long-distance shipping. For industrial and commercial use, there are two main approaches: on-site gas generation and solid pre-formulated chlorine dioxide disinfectant products (the factory-manufactured tablets, powder, gel and sachets we supply).
Industrial On-site Generation of Chlorine Dioxide Gas
Large water treatment plants commonly generate chlorine dioxide gas on demand at the point of use. Several chemical reactions are available:
- Chlorite + Acid Reaction (most widely used) Sodium chlorite reacts with acid to produce chlorine dioxide. This method delivers high purity ClO₂ and is popular for municipal water treatment.
- Chlorate Reduction Sodium chlorate reacts with reducing agents under acidic conditions. It is usually applied for large-scale industrial projects with high consumption.
Important note: Chlorine dioxide gas generated by these methods must be used immediately. It cannot be stored or transported as pure gas. Special generators, safety controls and professional operation are required. This process is complex and risky for small farms, warehouses or food factories.
Solid Pre-formulated Chlorine Dioxide Products (Our Factory’s Products)
